Response to Coleman

In Review of Bottlemania: How Water Went on Sale and Why We Bought It by Mark Coleman he reviews and talks about Bottlemania by Elizabeth Royte. He goes over some major topics that she covers in her article and gives his point of view on it. The audience in this piece is everyone in the world, but mainly American’s. Coleman is trying to put what Royte was talking about and expand it. He wants America and the world to see all the points she was trying to point out throughout her piece Bottlemania. He tries to appeal to them by starting the article off with facts about how many gallons of water American’s have consumed in the past few years.  Coleman mainly uses ethos as the rhetorical element. He uses the creditability of Elizabeth Royte and then also uses statistics on how much water American’s have consumed and discarded in bottled water. This article is an effective argument, because he has very well sources. By referring to the statistics in the beginning it starts building the ethos right off the bat. Than after that he does into talking about Royte’s piece and brings up the most important parts of her article.

Response to Michaels

In the article The Trouble with Diversity: How We Learned to Love Identity and Ignore Inequality, by Walter Benn Michaels, he is trying to state the point that the world should focus more on celebrating people’s cultures and differences and not focus on what color they are or how much money they have. Michaels audience is all the different people and races that believe they are in a certain class. He wants his audience to see that we should be loving race and identity and not what class someone is based on how much money they have. He tries to appeal to this audience by giving a quote as an example from a famous writer by F. Scott Fitzgerald and a response to this quote by Ernest Hemingway. Fitzgerald says that “the rich are different from you and me” and Hemingway’s response is “yes, they have more money.” By this quote Hemingway is telling Fitzgerald that the only difference between the rich and lower class is the money but not the people. Ethos is what sticks out the most in this article. He credits famous writers and a very famous book, The Great Gatsby. This argument is effective one. He uses good examples to state that people are not different but diverse.  He talking to the people to inform everyone that people should not care about what class they are in, but celebrate that everyone is different and we should love everyone’s race.

Response to Bittman

In Why Take Food Seriously? Because Your Life Depends on It, by Mark Bittman the audience is America and the people of America. Mark tries to appeal to this audience by telling them about how we are too obsessed with food and eating badly, instead of worrying about the important things with food like where it is grown. He tries to use information about how the people if we stop overconsumption of food we could help feed the other people in this world that struggle from not having food. The rhetorical element in this article is mainly logos, but has some ethos. The use of ethos is at the beginning of the article when he is state’s his experience in this field of food. Logos is used when Bittman is trying to persuade the audience by telling about how we started out strong with home cooking than declined as the years went on, but once diseases and acute illnesses started to appear people started to actually think about what they were doing with their food. Mark’s argument is an effective one. He points out all the flaws that people are doing with food, and helps people realize that people need to change to help others in the world. He is simply trying to inform everyone that there is change that needs to take place.

Rhetorical Analysis of My Paper

I wrote my paper on the greatest movie of all time, which was The Green Mile. The audience I was trying to reach and appeal to was my classmates, and my teacher. I aimed to appeal to the audience by pointing out the specific points which made this movie the greatest film of all time. The major elements that  I used throughout my paper was the actors, how critics reviewed this film, setting, and the plot. I used professional reviews from critics and awards the actors received to back up my movie. The rhetorical element that my paper had would be logos. My paper had logos because it had credibly resources from professional people, as well as, statistics of the actors and the awards they gained from this movie. My paper also has some pathos, because I created emotion when I brought up the point about the setting and the plot. If given the right plot a movie will create the emotions it needs to make an amazing movie. To get the emotions that are needed one needs to have the correct setting. I believe that my paper is an effective argument on the face that it had professional reviews of the movie when it came out. It also allowed the audience to see the different types of awards that the actors in the film made from the movie. I feel that I backed up my movie with the necessary elements to make it an effective argument that The Green Mile is the greatest movie of all time.

Response to Mock

The story I chose to read was Separation of Church and State: A War on Christmas and Other Misguided Notions by Melanie Springer Mock. The audience in this piece is Christians and other religious groups who are fighting to separate the state and church. The creator of this piece tries to appeal to these people by telling how she loves Christmas and remembers that Christmas is about the birth of Jesus, yet she still does not see the need to fight about whether the government should display Christmas and all its decorating splendor even though she does not agree with it either. She see’s Christmas as a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus and not a time to fight about if the government should have the right to put of decorations. This rhetorical element that this article displays is ethos. Mock is repeatedly talks about her own Christian belief, which may criticize some other Christian. Using the history of other religions and ethos it helps make the article more effective. This article is effective because in the Mock gives examples of other religion’s history and personal examples of the church and state separation. Using the history of other religions and ethos it helps make the article more effective.

Zombie Rhetorical Analysis

Watching the zombie clip came off to me really annoying. It seemed pointless and had no real argument to it. It was just a way the zombie wanted to convince a normal person to come in and eat it. The video was not eye-catching in any way, because it was just a black screen with the words put up on the screen in white. Even though I found it annoying someone else might find it catchy. It would be easy for someone to remember it though, because it had a chorus that was simple and easy to remember. the lyrics on the other had were very simple and someone could easily sing along and remember it. In my opinion it was boring and pointless.
